This year we will show four things. first up:
The P.O.V. cookie jar.
The P.O.V. is a cookie jar that changes color when you walk around it. Quite the visual wizardry if you ask us. Made out of ceramics and plastic, the P.O.V. cookie jar is vaguely reminiscent of old chinese burial pottery with their somewhat crude glazing. The colors replace the position of the glazing. When looking at it, the cookie jar gives you the feeling of of high-tech and low-tech at the same time. Made for DHPH.
The Routine is Nightshop’s very own compulsion. A lamp made from a thick sheet of clear acrylic and meticulously scratched by yours truly. By doing so, light travels from these scratches and enlighten your living room, kitchen or office. The handmade scratches contrast with the minimal and industrial looking armature. This gives it a weirdly personal touch. A reminder of human imperfection in a perfectly machined frame.
The Showdown is a handmade carpet from soft urethane foam. Inspired by oriental carpets with their lush details, the Showdown merely follows the global lines of those rugs. Leaving all details in favor of color.
The Exploded Chandelier
The Exploded Chandelier tells the story of old en new. Of different worlds that come together in one piece. The lamp is made out of second hand brass chandeliers typically found at old-fashioned dutch bars and rearranged into an exploded view. By doing so, the viewer is reminded of those old fragmented pieces and at the same time surprised to see the combination of those pieces in a new and modern context.
Ward van Gemert and Adriaan van der Ploeg founded NIGHTSHOP in 2010. Based in Rotterdam (NL), NIGHTSHOP tries to create surprising products with a reference to everyday life and a strong focus on bringing aspects of ‘low-culture’ into their designs. Apart from that, NIGHTSHOP is also keen on investigating the boundaries between good and bad taste.
Ventura Lambrate 2014 will take place from April 8th until April 13th during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. You can find NIGHTSHOP at the Ventura Hive on Via Dei Canzi 19.
